Written by Jason MaCarthur, a man who has been involved in Greyhounds for many years, the book follows the adventures of a Greyhound called Kane, in an attempt to educate children about the beautiful nature of Greyhounds.

As well as being a great fundraiser for the greyhounds, the book will be a wonderful gift for children - it’s never too early for Christmas shopping! Aimed at ages 3 - 12, the book is also suitable for older children, and of course dog loving adults.

$10 per copy plus $2 p&h - the book is being launched this weekend in SA.

Another plain black girl huh? 4 year old Ellie is very quiet and relaxed, and is not fazed by anything. She loves her food, licking her bowl clean, enjoys car rides, walks nicely on lead, and is looking forward to having her own people to bond with and care for her.

Ellie is in foster care with other dogs and a cat. Ellie would love doggy company in her forever home.

Well, our aim is to take greyhounds “from kennel to couch”. In four days however,  Lucy has moved “from kennel to human bed”.

“For a girl who’s spent many years in a kennel environment Lucy has taken to pet life like a duck to water. She is gentle, friendly, happy, and very well-mannered. She is a fast learner, not a voracious eater, and she absolutely loves her walks. She is excellent on lead but just needs to learn that sometimes you need to walk in a straight line and not try to sniff and say hello to everything you see! She is so waggy with a tail like a ring-tail possum’s, although a lot longer! She is in beautiful condition with a shiny soft coat, no scars, no bald spots! Of course she is blue and of medium build so she turns heads wherever she goes. She visited the school today and was very good about lots of kids coming up and patting her – she loves it all! She has discovered the joys and comfort of a human bed and she will gladly sleep on it whenever she is inside, so she’s quite independent in that way – it’s a nice change not to have a dog follow you around all day like my girl does! Some time in her life she must have learnt that a clap means NO because claps scare her a bit, which is also good to know for any training she may need – which won’t be much because she’s a such a clever, sensitive girl that the trick is NOT to clap accidentally (as the kids sometimes do) for fear of giving her the wrong message! I think she’d be great as a single dog but she’s also great with other dogs in the house, and because (thanks to the clap!) she can so easily be taught not to do things like jump (which she hasn’t yet picked up from my two!) – I think she’d be as good with older people as she is with young children.”Lucy will be available for adoption early July.

Emma just loves pet life and all it has to offer. She loves the excitement and activity of a busy family home. She is great with school aged children, other dogs and cats. The busier the better. Her only vice so far is that she hates to be alone, so she is looking for a forever home with children and doggy compnay where she will be involved in absolutely everything the family does.

Gail. DOB- 9/8/02 

Poor old Gail - she was a good racer in her day having almost 100 race starts. Luckily she has come to GSN where she is being well looked after and treated for her flea allergy - her coat should grow back well!

A couple of weeks on and Gail is doing very well. Her carer tells us “She is lovely, hasn’t put a foot wrong, is interested in everything & is just great. She has met the little dogs from next door, wagged her tail & looked like she wanted to play. She also met a very aggressive little poodle while out walking & she just wanted to avoid it (like everyone else, lol). “

Prior to GSN, gail has seen nothing of the world outside her racing life. When in the car & out on walks she just looks around the whole time in amazement. It’s really quite sad when you think about it. She is still learning the correct way to get on the couch.

Gail will be available for adoption at the end of June. She would love a quiet home with some company - oh and her own couch to practice on! 

Sally is a nice gentle girl. She is good with all size dogs & would love a home with company. She would be fine in a home with children where is would be included as part of the family.

RIP sweet boy.

Cupid was spoilt during his racing days & has found it difficult being back in the kennels. He would love to find a home with some space for him to go for a good run & family who will include him in everything & give him all the love he is now missing.

Special Needs – Pannus

Teddy is one really lovely boy. He is very affectionate & loves company while being very well behaved. He can be a bit shy at first but soon relaxes. He would be a wonderful addition to any home & gets along well with other dogs. Because of his pannus he needs to be an inside pet.
